Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed directly by Erskine Home to join a professional design team tasked with the design of a new two-storey accommodation block comprising twenty four one bedroom flats, four of which were constructed as suitable for use as accessible accommodation.

The new single bedroom apartments will provide accommodation for ex-servicemen and women of working age and has been delivered to meet social housing silver standard aspects 1 & 2.

Hulley & Kirkwood were responsible for the full design of all MEP services on the project from its inception to completion.

The following MEP design services were provided for the project;

• Full MEP services design. 

• Section 6 compliance (SAP Calculations) for the accommodation. 

• Provision of energy performance certification for each individual property.

In addition to the provision of full MEP design services, we also provided valued input to all stages of the planning and building warrant process.

A particular requirement of the fire strategy for the building was that the corridors and communal areas are all naturally ventilated via automatic opening ventilators (AOV) controlled via local thermostat. The AOVs can also be opened manually via a local secure switch. The AOVs also provide smoke extract in the event of a fire. The AOVs are linked to a central smoke extract panel located in the entrance lobby.
