After a series of unforeseen challenges, we are proud to say that we have successfully delivered the AHU replacement project at Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend. It was a fairly complex undertaking that required meticulous planning and precise coordination among many parties and contractors to minimise disruptions and ensure a seamless delivery.
The task - to replace the outdated AHUs serving the Maternity Theatres, Central Delivery Suite and Neonatal Unit.
The challenge - to fit new units which incorporated heat recovery into an extremely limited plantroom space.
Of course, the project extended beyond AHU replacement, involving extensive upgrades to the existing ductwork system, installation of new smoke fire dampers, actuators, dirty extract fans and delivery room fans; all while carefully integrating and co-ordinating with a site-wide BMS upgrade, alongside essential emergency roof repairs.
Now, with modern, WHTM-compliant cabinet-style units in place and numerous technical and logistical challenges overcome, we are delighted to see these essential services fully restored and can’t wait for the first patients and staff to benefit from the upgraded facilities.
A huge thank you to Mitie, Dalair Ltd, BCM Controls and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board for bringing this project to a successful completion!
